Registration for our February 24th camp is now available through our google form https://goo.gl/forms/v16FIEXpql200Zm42. We have already have our needed 20 volunteers to help run the camp. Currently, the board and the chemistry subject chair are planning activities for the camp. If our rate of growth continues for this camp we should be seeing the largest group as of yet.

Monday of this week the SNHS had a movie night and also completed work on the soaps that we had previously made. The bars were cut, labeled, and packaged. Tuesday night, these soaps were sold by students at a basketball. The money earned will aid the society for coming events, possibly even be a start to fund a field trip next year.
After winter break we will have a meeting for the members to announce plans for the second semester. Topics will include volunteer opportunities, kid's camps, and more. On November 11th, the SNHS held a volunteer soap making lab for its members. Members got in groups and were able to make scented soaps that will be sold later in the year. Before they're sold, members will also have an opportunity to wrap the soap during a movie night so that they can be sold. The money will be used to benefit the society to continue it's mission of spreading science curiosity.
The October 28th camp was a success with and increase of students participating. already, a number of parents have registered their kids for the remains camps of the year. It is our hope to keep increasing the number of kids that register as well as improve the information learned and fun of the camps. The next camp will be chemistry themed on February 24th. In other new, the SNHS soap making project will be on November 11th.
On October 25th, the SNHS had it's first induction ceremony, and went well. This should mark the beginning of following ceremonies and growth of the society. In other news, the biology camp is tomorrow. The number of kids and volunteers has increased since the first one. In fact, there are now more volunteers than kids, a good problem to have. With biology + halloween activities planned, we hope they will enjoy the camp and learn something too.
On September 30th, the first science camp of the year was conducted. Unfortunately, I was unable to attend due to marching band rehearsal. At first there was a lack of volunteers and things seemed to be on the cusp of falling apart, however they arrived late and the day was saved. Minus that hiccup, I've been told that the day was a success and that the kids were looking forward to the next camp. It's interesting to see that activities that high schoolers see as boring are extremely exciting for younger children. That camp will be on October 28th and will be biology and halloween themed. I will also be unable to attend this due to a semi-state competition. A few students are already signed up for all camps and I expect to see continued growth of the program throughout the year.
I'm the president of the NPHS Science National Honor Society and because of that I wanted to incorporate that into some of my projects. Last year the society had a kid's camp, in which elementary school students came to the high school to experiment through various activities in order to learn about science while also fostering curiosity. This year we're hoping to have a total of five camps, each going over a specific facet of science. The first, scheduled for September 30th, is a physics camp. Through having multiple camps and a growing number of kids involved, we hope to grow the program and insure that it continues after this years graduation.
